Sugar Crystals

My twin girls have been learning about evaporation and the water cycle in class.  So I decided to give them a more visual aid of how it works.

Everyone knows the sugar crystal method, but I think their crystals were a big success.

We simply used 4 cups of sugar to 1 cup water and boiled it until all the sugar dissolved.   Each one chose a different colouring for the jar.  The most important thing is to wet the  kebab stick and dip it in the sugar, so that the crystals have a place to start.  Let it dry thoroughly before placing it in the dissolved sugar mixture.

We placed glass containers in the sun and left if for 4 weeks. What fun for them to check everyday if their crystals have 'grown'.
